Meetings

20140321_165347CTA holds two public meetings each year. (Check out our news page and calendar for info on our next upcoming meeting.) As a member of CTA, you can help shape the future of the organization and take part in prioritizing our goals as they evolve. Meetings are the lifeblood of our organization, where we communicate recent developments in the archaeological community, cover old and new business, hear reports from our committees, and provide a forum for open discussion and ideas for the CTA. Attending the meeting allows an archaeologist to not only stay abreast of recent developments in CTA but also to lend his or her voice to important discussions and research.

Our Spring Meetings are held in Austin, Texas. In the past we have held the meeting at Camp Mabry and the LCRA Redbud Center. At our Spring Meetings, research papers are presented, allowing our members to share their most interesting or current studies in the field of archaeology, furthering CTA goals of communication in the archaeological community. After the research papers, the CTA hosts an afternoon social, with fajitas, beer, and good conversation.

The Fall Meetings are held at the annual Texas Archeological Society (TAS) conference, wherever it is located in the state. The meeting is typically scheduled for Friday morning, before the TAS Board Meeting. CTA also hosts a “Careers in Archaeology” social, with a chance for participants at the TAS conference to talk with professional archaeologists about the field of archaeology.

We especially recommend anyone interested in staying involved in the world of Texas archeology check out The Texas Archeological Society as well as the Texas Historical Commission.
