    Hi All,

I have a few updates I wanted to send out to everyone.

As mentioned in October, our Spring Meeting is Friday, April 10, 2026 at 9am, at the Austin Water Center for Environmental Research (CER) at Hornsby Bend (2210 South FM 973, Austin, 78725) and will also be on Zoom (link will be sent out the week before the meeting). Everyone will be required to show a valid ID to enter the gate, but we are working with the CER to make this process faster than last year.

The afternoon session will start promptly at 1:00pm in the CER lecture room and also be on Zoom. WE are planning to have some of the J. Michael Quigg Student Research Grant recipients present on their research.

The afternoon social will immediately follow the afternoon session and will be held at the Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park again (400 Grove Blvd, Austin, TX 78741).

On Saturday, April 11th, CTA will be hosting a Career Fair and Public Outreach Event at South Austin Beer Garden (SABG) located at 10700 Menchaca Road, Austin, TX 78748. SABG is normally open to the public starting at noon; however, they will be opening early for our event. SABG is both pet and kid friendly.

The Career Fair will be held from 10-11:30am with booths set up in the back parking lot area of SABG (set up will start at 9am). To register for a booth, see the link below. Registration is $150/booth. Folks will need to bring their own tables, chairs, tents, etc. and there will not be any available electric outlets. We will have coffee and donuts, or some other kind of breakfast food, and some limited drinks tickets to use at SABG for participants and attendees.

The Public Outreach portion of the event will be held from 11:30-2:30pm in the covered courtyard area of SABG. Similar to public outreach events held during Texas Archaeology Month, the intent of this archaeology fair is to engage the public by providing family friendly, interactive activities, demonstrations, and exhibits. There is no fee for participants for the public outreach event. If you are interested in hosting a booth, please email me at cnielsen@swca.com and counciloftexasarcheologists@gmail.com. Participants are welcome to set up as early as they like (starting at 9am). There are some picnic tables that can be moved and used, as needed; however, I suggest bringing your own table and chairs to be safe. Electrical outlets will not be available in this area, either.

I will follow up with more specific instructions for participants who register for the career fair and/or public outreach event.

Register for a booth at the Career Fair - https://counciloftexasarcheologists.org/event-6578055

    Cheers,

    Tina Nielsen

A note from the Government Affairs Committee:

The United States Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee has scheduled a hearing next week about Section 106 of the NHPA. Their announcement states, “The purpose of the hearing is to examine the Section 106 consultation process under the National Historic Preservation Act.”  No additional details have been posted, but the hearing will take place on October 29, 2025 at 9:30 am EASTERN time. The hearing will be streamed on the Committee’s website:  https://www.energy.senate.gov/

Please remember to check ACRA and SAA for additional information, as they have relationships with some of the legislators. ACRA is actively in contact with senators and seeking additional information on the hearing. We encourage membership to listen to the hearing if possible, as this could have a direct impact on how we do our work.
